Grace for your spirit May 9, 2008

Grace for your spirit
"Truly I say to you, I have not found such great faith with anyone in Israel. I say to you that many will come from east and west, and recline at the table with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven; but the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." Matthew 8:10-12

A Roman centurion cast a large shadow on the faithful in Israel. The soldier came to Jesus for the needs of his paralyzed servant. He trusted in the power of Jesus in a way Jesus had not seen. It was the kind of faith Jesus hoped he would see in His people. The Israelites seemed to think that their seat in the kingdom was already reserved due to their heritage. Jesus said, "think again." Many will come to sit at that table and will be cast out into outer darkness. Do we think we have an irrevocable reservation at the Lord’s table? Think again. Faith that doesn’t work is dead.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit
Philippians 4:23
