Grace for your spirit October 10, 2012

Grace for your spirit
Got up from supper, and laid aside His garments; and taking a towel, He girded Himself.  Then He poured water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.  John 13:4-5

At this Passover supper just before Jesus went to the cross, the apostles were about to get a lesson they didn't see coming, and didn't think they needed. Foot washing at dinner was a regular necessary task completed by the lowest servant available.  The apostle's certainly didn't put themselves in that category.  When Jesus began to fill that need, they were certainly shocked, but Jesus did it for a reason.  If Jesus could wash feet, who else in the room could refuse to be a servant.  All disciples of Christ are called to be servants.  They were not greater than their Master and neither are we.  We are slaves of Christ. As slaves we have no rights, only privileges.  Let's be privileged to serve
